Served in the American Revolution as a 1st Lt. from South Carolina. Husband of Ann Dorothy Villaur. He was 85 years old at the time of his death.

(special thanks to Franklin for the following info) The Cabinetmakers of America listed Jacob Sass of Charleston, SC. Born 1755. Arrived from Germany in 1773 and in 1776 married Dorothea Vielham, daughter of a German planter. For almost fifty years worked as a cabinetmaker in Charleston. Held many positions of honor and trust in American Army during the Revolution. Became a member of the German Friendly Society in 1777 and its president in 1789. His portrait hangs in the Hall of the Society. Acquired a great deal of property in and around Charleston. His wife died March 31, 1812 and he died in February 1836. They are buried in St. John's Lutheran Churchyard. A mahogany desk-bookcase in the Miles Brewton House has this inscription in ink on the side of an interior drawer: "Made by Jacob Sass, October, 1794." Other pieces of furniture have been attributed to him but this is the only labeled piece to come to light.
