Add PhotosThe churchyard now contains just three gravestones; previously by 1880 it had received over 5000 interments. The church had opened in 1848 but by 1958 the poor appearance of the churchyard with its gravestones was so bad that a Manchester newspaper carried a story about it. In 1959 Droylsden Urban District Council took over the graveyard. It was decided to remove all but three of the gravestones. The inscriptions were recorded by Mr. Arthur Self prior to their removal. Both the Local Studies Library (Ashton) and St Mary's church keep copies of the inscriptions and there is a register of burials. By 1961 the churchyard was completely grassed over. The three surviving gravestones are Burgess, Higson and Thompson memorials. The churchyard is currently a well-maintained, pleasant green space by the side of a busy road and tram-stop in Droylsden.
