Major League Baseball Player. For four seasons (1950 to 1953), he played at the outfield position with the Boston Braves, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. Born Robert Gordon Addis, he was signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Yankees in 1943. Following service with the United States Marine Corps, Addis resumed his Minor League career which included a stint in the Brooklyn Dodgers' farm system. He was acquired by the Braves in a trade (along with Sam Jethroe) and made his Major League debut on September 1, 1950. In 1952, he produced a career-high 86 hits, with a .295 batting average. After retiring from baseball, he worked as a high school teacher and baseball coach.
