U.S. Congressman. Born near Delta, Pennsylvania, he moved to St. Clairsville, Ohio, in 1799 and became successful in agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1830, 33-34) and served as associate judge of the court of common pleas, in 1831. In 1837, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he was a extensive owner of farming land in West Virginia and Illinois, until his death at age 56 in McNabb, Illinois.
