Military figure. Breckenridge was a professional soldier and the effective organizer and lieutenant colonel of the 1st West Tennessee (later the 6th Tennessee) Cavalry under Colonel Fielding Hurst. He kept a detailed diary that only surfaced in 2012, evidencing that he did more than just serve as regimental commander during Hurst's absences. He died of 'disease' at Grand Junction, TN on October 15, 1863.
