On March 30, 1917 ten days after being mustered out of border service the 1st Squadron, 1st NY Cavalry was called to duty. Troop A was part of the 1st Squadron and ordered to guard the NY Aqueduct Water System. When war was declared he was already on duty.
World War 1, he mustered in for the World War with the 1st NY Cavalry. The regiment was reorganized into the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division and assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, for training. Troop A was designated Company A, 104th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.
He was transferred, February 27, 1918, to the Air Service Signal Corps School of Military Aeronautics, Princeton, NJ. He was transferred August 12, 1918 to the 339 Aer Squadron and discharged from the service as a Sergeant 1st Class, February 4, 1919.
