20th CENTURY LITURGICAL PAINTER, FRESCO ARTIST and CHURCH ARTISAN.
PROF. MAX AUTENRIEB was a German-American liturgical painter and decorator who ran a family-run studio that decorated and restored hundreds of Catholic and other churches throughout the USA. AUTENRIEB STUDIOS, still in existence (run by his three children), decorated numerous St. Louis area landmark churches, including historic St. Anthony of Padua Church (recently restored after a disastrous fire in the late 1990's), and others.

The AUTENRIEB STUDIOS have received professional recognition from church arts groups and craftsmanship organizations for their artistic liturgical painting and restoration work. After his death at age 96, Prof. Max Autenrieb's funeral Mass was held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL, followed by burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

A large family monument and footmarker bears his name. His artworks and paintings are found in churches throughout the midwestern and mid-southern U.S.A. and elsewhere.
