WOMAN DIES AFTER SON'S FUNERAL
Mrs. K. B. Kanter, Sister of David T. Wilentz, Passes Away Suddenly
NEWARK, Feb. 22. Mrs. Kate B. Wilentz Kanter, wife of Elias Kanter and sister of David T. Wilentz of Perth Amboy, Democratic leader of Middlesex County, was laid to rest this afternoon at Oheb Sholom Cemetery beside the body of her son, Leonard, 13, who was buried yesterday.
Mrs. Kanter passed away a few hours after the burial of her son.
Her death was attributed to pneumonia.
She was 36 years old and was prominent in political circles in Essex County.
Death came to her at her home, 41 Stengel avenue, Newark.
Her son, Leonard, the older of her two boys, died Saturday afternoon of the same illness and was laid to rest Sunday.
Mrs. Kanter was the wife of Elias Kanter, well known Newark lawyer.
ln early life, Mrs. Kanter was a school teacher at Perth Amboy.
She was later prominent in political and social circles in Essex County.
She was a former vice chairman of the Ninth Ward Democratic Committee and was also program chairman of the Democratic Women's Club of New Jersey.
She was active as the legislative chairman of the Contemporary of Newark and also as president of the Maple Avenue School Parent-Teachers' Association, of which the was founder.
A well known humanitarian, Mrs. Kanter took an active part in the presentation of bills before the Essex delegation, seeking to benefit the women and children of the State.
She had attended every legislative session at Trenton this term, without a single exception.
It is generally accredited to Mrs. Kanter that the new Chancellor avenue school here was erected, for she had appeared before the Board of Education upon numerous occasions with petitions asking the construction of the school.
Rabbi Charles I. Hoffman officiated at. the services. Besides her husband, she is survived by a 10-year-old son.
