Julius L. Prottengeier, a resident of Montrose for the past 66 years, died Friday at Osteopathic Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 89.

Mr. Prottengeier was a retired farmer and ditch rider and had lived in the Montrose area since 1908. He was born September 26, 1885, in Saint Sebald, Iowa and spent his childhood and attended schools in Weaverly, Iowa.

Oct 26, 1910, Julius married Caroline E Bahmeier. Caroline died, 5 Jun 1916, her obit. 13 Jun 1916 Montrose Daily Press, CO. Caroline is buried in Crown Hill cemetery in Denver, beside her sister, Lavina.

On July 2, 1938, he married Ruth Elliott Fowler in Montrose. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Montrose and also served in the Colorado National Guard.
