Matthew came to America in early 1836 and was living in Philadelphia. He sent for his wife who brought the children. One died on the way. Moved to Nauvoo, Ill. in 1840-1. Moved to Council Bluff in 1846. 1852-3 came to Utah. Settled in Fillmore in 1854. Young son died in Fillmore. Bought land where Cove Fort now stands, 160 acres. Sold his land to Charles Wildon, moved to Beaver before 1860. Lived in Beaver the rest of his life.

His father was William B. McEwen, born 1780-Death abt 1818 in Glasgow, Scotland and Mother was Mary Craig born 1780 in Londonderry, Derry, Ireland, it is reported she had three sons by another husband.
