Lennie Florence Coates, 82, of Horton, formerly of Netawaka died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997 at the Horton Hospital. She was born May 2, 1914 In Hagan, Va., the daughter of Andrew and Sara Elizabeth Wolfe.

She lived most of her life in the Netawaka community before moving to Horton in 1993. She was a member of the Netawaka Methodist church and had been attending the First Christian church in Horton. She was also a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service at Netawaka.

Lennie was married to Melvin Coates Feb. 8, 1932in Horton. He died Oct. 30, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, June Hall, in August of 1993.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Cummings, Walterboro, S.C., Janice Swain, Decater, Ala., and Beverly Trungle, Hiawatha; two sisters, Fannie Brown, Holton and Myrtle Moore, Polk City, Iowa; a brother, Harmon "Pete" Wolfe, Hiawatha; 15grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Horton Senior Citizens Center and may be sent in care of the Whiting Bank in Horton.
