Loren was born and raised in Madison, MInnesota. He graduated from the Madison High School where he excelled in sports during his high school days. Following high school, Loren worked for a short time before joining the Army Air Corp during World War II. He married Bessie Perkins on February 22, 1943, in Madison, before being sent overseas to the Pacific Theater. While overseas, Loren was a crew member of a plane flying supply missions for the allied troops. Following WWII, Loren and Bess moved to Minneapolis where Loren had enrolled at the Dunwoody Institute. He then took a job with the Gamble Skogmo Hardware Corporation and began working at their store at 50th and France Avenue in Minneapolis. From there Loren and Bess moved first to Willmar and then Brookings, S.D., where he managed the Gamble Hardware Stores. In the early 1950's, Loren was transferred to the Gamble Store in Northfield. In Northifled, Loren later changed jobs and became the bookkeeper for the Northfield Iron and Culvert Company and also was involved in sales In 1965 Loren began working at the Perman's Clothing Store where Bess was already employed. Loren enjoyed 21 years working for Permans and retired in 1986. Loren loved sports of all kinds. In High school he completed in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He always attended and watched as many games as he could and enjoyed talking sports with his customers and friends. He and his son, Stewart, took many fishing and camping trips up North, and golf had become Loren's passion. He was an avid card player and was excellent at cribbage. Loren was very proud of his grandchildren and very interested in their activities, especially their sports. Loren is survived by his wife Bess, son Stewart and his wife Connie; grandchildren Michelle, Mathew, Scott, and Susan; sisters Marie Phlueger of California, Eloise Rogers of Arizona, brothers Palmer of Colorado, Harry of Minneapolis, Parnell of Florida, and Glen of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Don, and brothers Edward, Robert, Dennis, and John.
