In 1924, James, age 27, and his wife, Primrose age 23 and daughter Elizabeth, age 2, left Glasgow, Scotland bound for Quebec, Canada aboard the vessel 'Marburn'. James' nearest relative in Scotland was his mother, Anne Shewan of Rinnachat, Aberlour, Banffshire.
