1935 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy. Naval Aviator in the Aviation Unit of USS Quincy (CA-71) during 1939 and 1940.

Served on the staff of Commander Fleet Air Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean during 1958 and 1959.

Alton Edwin "Paddy" Paddock Died 7 Jan 2000 in the nursing facility of Falcon's Landing, Sterling, VA
He was born in Brooklyn NY in 1913 and raised in Port Washington NY. He entered the Naval Academy where he played on the baseball team and in the orchestra on violin. After graduation in the class of 1935 he served three tears in USS California and entered flight training in 1938. Upon receiving his wings he served in the Aviation Units of USS Quincy and USS Tuscaloosa. After service at Jacksonville as a flight instructor he joined VS-3 in USS Saratoga in the Pacific and was on board at the outbreak of WWII. He then served with VS-10 and entered the Naval Postgraduate School in August 1948 for a year, followed by a year at MIT, earning a degree in aeronautical engineering and designation as AEDO. During the next six years he worked on the development of catapults and arresting gear at the Naval Air Materiel Center and the Bureau of Areonautics. in 1950 he was assigned to the O&R depot at NAS San Diego followed by duty as BuAer representative at the Glenn L Martin Company, Baltimore, MD. He attended the Naval War College and was assigned in 1955 to the Staff of ComFairELM in Naples as logistics officer. His "sunset" tour was in command of NADC Johnsville/Warminster, PA, whose mission included astronaut training. After retirement in August 1965 he was manager of the Management Systems Branch of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory Program for the GE Space Division and then as a research administrator for the University of Pennsylvania until 1981 and full retirement to Falcon's Landing in Sterling, VA.
He was predeceased by his daughter Jane Paddock Schwartz, and is survived by his wife Penelpe "Penny" Ann (nee Barton) of Sterling, VA, son Richard and his wife Dana, of Arlington,VA, son-in-law Greg Schwartz of Herndon, VA, and five grandchildren.
