Robert Hamilton Hardaway, 72 years old, a widely known actor who once lived in
Kansas City, died Monday at the home in Phoenix, Ariz., it was learned here today.
Mr. Hardaway lived here during the 1930s when he produced and acted in radio shows
entitled "Bob Hardaway's Opery House Players" and the "Old Opery House
Mellerdramers."
He was a native of Thomasville, Ga. He was an actor about fifty years and played on
Broadway in shows starring such stage greats as Constance Collier, Richard Mansfield,
Richard Bennett, William S. Hart, George Arliss and Lenore Ulrich. In all, he played 640
parts.
Mr. Hardaway moved from Kansas City to Chicago in 1938 where he wrote and acted in
many radio series.
He was a member of the Elks, the American Federation of Radio Artists and the Actors
Equity association.
Mr. Hardaway leaves his wife, Mrs. Melba Hardaway of the home in Phoenix; two sons,
Robert L. Hardaway, 2917 North Thirteenth street, Kansas City, Kansas, and John M.
Hardaway, Phoenix; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Louise Vogel, Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Archer
Killinger, San Fernando, Calif., and Mrs. Guy B. Mitchell, Branson, Mo.; two brothers,
Ben Hardaway, North Hollywood, Calif., and Frank Hardaway, Fresno, and two
grandchildren.
