Felix M. Sanchez, 87, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Fort Madison Health Center. He was born on April 17, 1921 in Fort Madison, IA to Magdaleno & Julia Montoya Sanchez. He married Eustolia T. Mendez on May 16, 1942 in Fort Madison, IA. He was a fireman engineer at the powerhouse at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a charter member and past president of the Lulac Club and served as an officer for the state Lulac Council. He served every position on the Mexican Fiesta Committee and volunteered for the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard and marched in the Rodeo Parade several times for the honor guard. He also was an interpreter for the Mexican community for many years.
Felix is survived by: his wife: Eustolia Sanchez of Fort Madison, IA; 1-daughter: Belia (Daniel) Hernandez of Fort Madison, IA; 8-sons: Felix (Jessica) Sanchez of Seattle, WA, Ricardo (Sue) Sanchez of Seattle, WA, Lorenzo (Judie Oberst) Sanchez of Racine, WI, Reynaldo (Julia) Sanchez of Fort Madison, IA, Arturo Sanchez of Seattle, WA, Andres (Elaine) Sanchez of Seattle, WA, Roberto (Mary Beth) Sanchez of West Burlington, IA & Joseph (Tami) Sanchez of Fort Madison, IA; 35-grandchildren; 6-great grandchildren; 1-brother: Juan Sanchez of Zacatecaz, Mexico; 3-sisters: Maria Cavasos of Sterling, IL, Lena Martinez of Zacatecaz, Mexico and Jesse Trancoso of Rock Falls, IL. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 4-brothers and 2-sisters.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2009 with the family to meet with friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 5:00 on Sunday afternoon at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Troy Richmond. Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established for the Lulac Scholarship Fund or the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
