ALEXANDRIA —?Donald B. "Donnie" Adams, 55, of Alexandria, passed away Sept. 11, 2006, following an auto accident.

He was born April 14, 1951, in Anderson, and lived in Alexandria all of his life. He was a 1969 graduate of Alexandria High School. He retired in June 1996 from Fisher Guide after 23 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Eagles Lodge, both in Alexandria.

Earlier in his life, he played bass guitar in several local bands, including "The Fenders," "Foxx" and "Mountain Ash." He was an avid race enthusiast. As a driver, he raced with the USAC Sprint Division for many years. His love was racing in the Anderson Little 500 at Anderson Speedway. In 1997, he retired from racing as a driver and became crew chief for his son, who now carries on the racing legacy.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Margaret (Flowers) Adams of Alexandria; daughter, Kristen Adams of Indianapolis; son, Donnie Adams Jr., at home; sisters, Susie Sayre and Debbie Stone, both of Alexandria; stepmother, Marilyn Adams Martin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Sallie Flowers of Natchez, Miss.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carla and Jerry Lyden of Lewisville, Texas, Anne and Phil Smith of Haslett, Mich., and Mary and Mario Romero of Riverton, Utah; great-uncle, Ralph Eugene King; aunts and uncles, Phyllis Bauer of Anderson, David and Judy Adams of Alexandria, Roy and Marianne Malott of LaFountain, Andree Adams of South Pasadena, Fla., Elizabeth Weston and Tim and Jackie McCord, all of Anderson, Shirley and Barbara McCord of Alexandria; nieces and nephews, Marcie and Dave Wood of Westerville, Ohio, Bruce and Karen Sayre of Alexandria, Chance Stone of Alexandria, Karrie Staples of Haslett, Mich., Sean and Brendan Lyden of Lewisville, Texas, Denver Hoggatt of Riverton, Utah, and Elena Romero, Eliza Romero and Mia Romero, all of Riverton, Utah; and several cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald R. and Mary Ella Adams; grandparents, Everett Adams, Ray and Eva Dwiggins, Essie McCord and Wayne McCord; and brother-in-law, Denver Flowers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Paul Cochran officiating. Burial will be at Park View Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria.
