Deveane Bush

SPRINGFIELD - Deveane Monroe Bush of Springfield died June 16 of age related causes. He was 93.

Bush was born July 21, 1908, in Ludington, Mich., to Arthur and Nellie Walker Bush. He married Lotta Greene in Detroit, Mich., on Aug. 21, 1927.

He grew up and attended schools in Aberdeen, Wash., and Lansing, Mich. At age 14 he became an apprentice in tool and die making with Motor Wheel Corp. He made airplane propellers for Nash Kelvinator during World War II. Bush also worked for Federal Drop Forge in Lansing. He moved to Astoria where he worked for Phillips Drucker for two years before moving to Eugene. He worked at Nielsen Saw & Manufacturing for eight years. Bush then worked for the physics department the University of Oregon, where he taught graduate students in the machine shop and made items for the professors in the science labs. He retired in 1973 and moved to Yachats.

Bush returned to Eugene in 1981 and settled in Springfield in 2000. His interests included hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, hiking, and traveling. He was a talented wood carver and enjoyed making things for his family. He also enjoyed spending winters in Texas.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane Schafer and Kay McDonald; two sons, Derwood and Gale; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
