Born January 8, 1920, in Butler, a son of the late Clark T. and Hazel (Hackett) Levis.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1959 as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20 years of service. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The Army Occupation of Japan Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the French Jubilee of Liberty Medal.
In 1982 he also retired from York Borg Warner where he worked for 15 years. He attended Emanuel United Methodist Church in Loganville. Mr. Levis had been very active in the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry for 13 years. He also was a volunteer reader for the York County Blind Center, tutored English for foreign students for Red Lion School District, and was a volunteer for Parents Anonymous.
He is survived by two daughters, Amy E. Herman, and her husband, Michael of York, and Sally A. Samson, and her husband, Dan of Windsor; four grandchildren, Tara Goodrich and her husband, Stephen, Chad Herman and his wife, Cortney, Benjamin Samson, and Jennifer Samson; two great-grandchildren, Grace Goodrich and Andrew Goodrich; and a sister, Shirley Christner, of Clearwater, Fla. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Levis who died at birth.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Emanuel United Methodist Church, 40 S. Main St., Loganville, with The Rev. Art Dean, Pastor of New Covenant Community Church, officiating. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Loganville United Methodist Cemetery, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
