John was a teacher at Rio Rancho High School. He married Penny Sartin in 1990. He adopted Penny's son, Benjamin, and John and Penny had a child, Rachel Anne McCallister in January 1991. John was a wonderful teacher, husband, father, brother and friend. His life was cut short by a freak bicycle accident. He is missed ...

Sitting here and listening to your eulogy, I sense your voice from afar calling my name, "Linda, Linda, Linda . . ."

I turn believing that you must be standing beside me and I am ready to believe this has all been a terrible mistake.

I ache to know you are near and hear you calling my name ... I glance around the Rio Rancho High School auditorium and wonder if there is any other who hears your voice ... and I realize that it is to me alone that you speak.

I need to tell you that I will not let you leave this way. You can get angry at me and not speak to me for years, but you can't go away and leave me alone like this.

I talk to you, but you don't seem to hear me. I expect to round the corner and bump into you, but you are not there.

As your voice becomes stronger, I see you walking amongst our family and friends. Your face reflects that your soul is at peace.

When I sense it is time for me to let you go, I whisper a silent prayer asking the Lord for guidance and comfort.

When I open my eyes, I find you are gone, and in the distance, I hear your voice ... very softly and gently saying, "This is not a goodbye but see ya later, Alligator."

On 6 December 2007, in Ogden, Utah, John was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints with his uncle, Milton Ray Bloomquist, serving as proxy. Some sweet day ...
