Ina Lucille Brenden Steele, 87, of Hornick, died Wednesday, October 14, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, after a long illness.

She was born November 17, 1899, near Albaton to Phillip and Della (Dubois) Parker. On February 16, 1921, she married Albert William Brenden at Albaton. The couple resided at Albaton until moving to a farm near Whiting in 1928. In 1946 they moved to Sloan. Two children, Elaine and Maurice, were born to this union. Mr. Brenden died October 4, 1966, at Onawa. She married Walter Steele on May 15, 1977, at Hornick. They reside in Hornick until she entered Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting in January 1987.

She was a member of Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton, Smith-Rhodes American Legion Auxiliary Post #295 and the Athena Lodge Chapter, Order of Eastern Star 460, both of Sloan.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Maurice Brenden of Whiting; one daughter, Elaine Linscott of Bella Vista, Ark.; four stepdaughters, Gloria Steinhoff of Smithland, Mary Smith of Sloan, Lucille Shaffer of San Miguel, Calif. and Jeannie Henry of Sioux City; one sister, Della Jane Whitten of Lincoln, Nebr.; one brother, Ray of Excelsior, Minn.; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert Brenden, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 1987, at the Skien Lutheran Church, Sloan, Iowa, with Rev. Peter V. Boe and Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating. The organist was Mrs. Jon Roarson and Mrs. Arnold Brenden, soloist, sang “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” and “The Love of God”.

Casket bearers were Tracy Brenden, Paul Rasmussen, Michael Brenden, Larry Teel, William Linscott and Richard Brenden.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Sloan, (Albaton), Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
