Dora Stuart -VICTORIAN ACTRESS -Born (as AMANDA HAYNES) in New OrLeans. Died in New York of congestlon of the brain on Angust 17th interred at Greenwood Cemetery She was a French Creole descended from an old and aristoeratic New Orieans famlly. At the age of sixteen she was married to a Colonel Dreher a Confederate officer who was kllled on the battie field. Her second hushand was another mllitary man Paymaster Bradford EA Sothern put her on the stage in Our American Cousin Miss Stuart was for several seasons in Gus Wllliams company. Among the pieces in which she acted at divers times were- in the Ranks, The Pavements of Paris, One of the Finest and the eccentric Saimi Morse's Bustie Among the Petticoats. Her last engagement was played at the Lyceum Theatre New York when she acted a character comedy part in The Main Line. in her youth Dora Stuart was a very handsome and accomplished woman. Her tastes however were Bohemian and during the flfteen years in which she was on the stage, she led a jovial life .1888-obit 1-obit 2-Dora Stuart who has been seen in New York in play of The Main Line .Stuart was her stage name. The New Orleans Picayune says she was one of the brightest and fairest of Louisiana girls before the war a native of the Felicians and became the wife and widow of the lamented Colonel Charlie Dreaux the first Confederate officer to give up his life for his country,(ACTUALLY Col. Charles Didier Dreux,the first Officer from Louisiana killed in the American Civil War.) She subsequently married an officer of the United States navy and disappeared from New Orleans .
