Lloyd Junior Shumate passed to his heavenly home June 1, 2013 at 2:50 a.m. surrounded by his family.

Lloyd was born January 28, 1926 to Rube and Ollie (Hyder) Shumate.

Lloyd was a World War II veteran where he served his country as a military policeman guarding POW's.

On October 23, 1950 he married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Denney. To this union five children were born, three sons, Larry Shumate, Gary Shumate and Dennis Shumate and two daughters, Theresa (Shumate) Belt and Mary (Shumate) Dering.

Lloyd was preceded in death by both parents, Rube and Ollie Shumate, two grandchildren, Mark Anthony Shumate and Angela Michelle Evans and one sister, Wanda (Shumate) Medlock.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Shumate of the home, Larry Shumate and wife Martha, Gary Shumate and wife Vicki, Theresa Belt and husband Wiley, Mary Dering and husband Lou, Dennis Shumate and wife Sandy, eight grandchildren, Sheila Shumate, Larry Shumate Jr., Terry Shumate, Wiley Belt Jr., Jennifer (Belt) Nelson, Misty (Evans) Baker, Shelly (Evans) Young and D.J. Shumate, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Lloyd was a hard working man that never had and easy job, but always found a way to provide for his family, whether it was hauling milk in cream cans, mechanicing, working in tire shops where he ran a buffer, or working sawmills where he ran an edger, until he retired at age 65.

He loved to fish and going to hear music. Lloyd was a great husband, father and grandpa. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Lloyd will be Wed., June 5, 2013, 2:00 p.m. the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with full military honors by Ava American Legion Post 112. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Irwin. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
