Susanna Putnam and Christopher Burlingame were married by her father, on December 13, 1787. It is said that when Chirstopher asked General Putnam for his daughter's hand in marriage, the General agreed with the condition that the Burlingames come to the Ohio Lands when they were opened for setterment. Susanna and Christopher came to Marietta, Ohio in 1790 with the Putnam family, and moved into the Campus Martius Stockade. At the time they had two daughters Persis Maria, who married Benjamin Hubbard Miles; and Susanna, who was a baby when they left Massachusetts, she married George Corner. The Burlingames had nine children born in Ohio, Martha, who married Samuel Prince Robbins; Lucy, who married Zephaniah H. Bosworth; Edwin, who married Jane Evans; William; Elizabeth, who married Nathaniel Dodge; Christopher, who married Elizabeth Rose Bartlett then Eliza A. Heath Francison; Rufus Putnam, who married Jane Morrow then Hester Morrow then in 1853 Helen gillette Gurley; John Bennett, who married Emeline Morrow then Charlotte Hull Gurley; and Sarah, who married James Callahan.
The Burlingames lived in Harmer, Ohio, and where among the first members of the Harmar Congregational Church.
