Ludwig Fulda was a German playwright and poet with strong social obligations and translator, mainly of Moliere. He was a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts and the first president of the PEN of Germany (1925-1932). In his day he was one of the best played writers. In 1932 he was honored with the Goethe Medal for Art and Science. Due to being Jewish one year later the Academy debarred him and his publications were banned. Fulda committed suicde in 1939, when he was denied entry into the United States.
