Cheri Lee Newman, 28, of Southington CT, was found on Aug. 12, 1995, in New Hampshire. She was born in New Britain CT and was a resident of Southington for most of her life. She attended Southington schools, and was employed by the Happy Holiday Travel Agency in Plainville. She was also employed at the Sting in New Britain.

Cheri is survived by her son Christopher Newman; brother Ronald Newman, Jr., of Southington; sister Susan Newman of Bristol CT; maternal grandmother Blanche (Pelletier) Babin of Fort Kent, Maine; paternal grand-
mother Dorothy Newman DeRosa of Newington CT; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cheri was predeceased by her father Ronald F. Newman.

Funeral services will be on Thursday (Aug. 17) at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome's Church, 1010 Slater Rd., New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., has charge of arrangements.

Cheri Newman was murdered on May 30, 1995, in New Britain CT. Her body was found 2½ months later in Lyndenborough NH.

Cheri's mother Joyce (Babin) Newman passed away on Aug. 12, 1995, the day Cheri was found. Their lives were celebrated together at a joint funeral service. Cheri's brother adopted her young son after her death.

The jury for the killer's first Connecticut murder trial deadlocked, causing a mistrial. He was convicted of murder in his second trial and on Oct. 6, 1999, was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
