INTERMENT: With Full Military Honors will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. tonight, Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens Home, 6301 Taft Street
Mac served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1954. At his retirement, General Robert C. Hire, his commander, wrote, “It is with deep regret I witness your retirement but congratulate a job well done.” Following his military career, Mac spent 20 years with the City of Hollywood. “We were lucky to have had him for so many years. He left us with knowledge, love, kindness and funny stories. The world was a better place because he was here. In the end, it’s what we leave behind. He left a legacy unmatchable. We will miss you but rest in peace. There will be another star in heaven. Sleep well.”
SURVIVORS: His children, Michael, Robert “Bob” (Sue Ann) and Timothy (Belima) McCarthy; grandchildren, Jennifer, Corinne, Timothy and Anthony; brother, James (Thelma) McCarthy; sisters, Mae McSwain, Juanita “Toby” Greene (Ted) and Dorothy Wallace; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends
