He was a son of Eugene and Ida Cook Ackerman. He attended Watertown schools.
He married Marion L. Monroe on Dec. 25, 1929 at the First Methodist Church, Norfolk. She died Dec. 31, 1986.
He was employed by Alcoa in department 79 of the merchant mill until his retirement in 1969. After retiring he was a volunteer at the Hermon and Norwood ARC Centers.
Surviving were two sons, Edgar and Gene, both of Massena; a daughter, Lucille Ackerman, Massena; two sisters, Mrs. Clinton (Shirley) Francis and Mrs. Anthony (Frances) Scott, both of Syracuse; two brothers, Oren, Brasher Falls, and Warren, Nova Scotia.
