Henry J. Ostrow, 88, of Crystal Lake and formerly of the Arlington Heights area, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Centegra Hospital - McHenry. He was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Hamtramck, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in which he earned two Purple Hearts. He was the owner of Henry's Refrigeration of Arlington Heights. He and his wife, Mildred, enjoyed ballroom dancing. Survivors include his children, Vern (Mary) Ostrow of Algonquin, Alan (Teri) Ostrow of Crystal Lake, Jane (Patrick) Gibbons of Lakewood, Dave (Mimi) Ostrow of Lake Zurich, Thomas (Cindy) Ostrow of McHenry and Judy (Bob) Flynn of Crystal Lake; his grandchildren, William (Tama) and Kristin Ostrow, Brian and Jason Ostrow, Robert Crown, Susan Dasher, Debra Sturgis, Tabitha Lesko, Michelle Blackburn, Jeffery Crown, Kathryn (Martin) Muir, Jennifer (Nathan) Wiles, Sarah Ostrow, Elizabeth Schiavone, Daniel (Rachel) Ostrow, Melissa Greene, and Thomas and Steven Flynn; 21 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Rita (Eric) Andersen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred C. Ostrow. The visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., (Route 176), Crystal Lake.The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake, where he will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the Mass. Monsignor Daniel J. Hermes will officiate. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
