Raymond served in World War II and the Army Reserves through 1952 as a 2nd Lieutenant Medical Service Corps Officer. Ray was a retired engineer and vice president at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He as a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Ray was a devoted husband and father. He led by quiet example, and was a man of deep, abiding faith in God and a good Catholic. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and golf. An avid sports fan, he loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and Duke basketball. Ray was never idle, using his hands – a putterer with a purpose. He had a thirst for knowledge, and was patient and dependable as the day is long. He answered to many names: Ray, Ramie, Dad, Daddy-O, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Pop – and was the patriarch of a multi-generational family where each person found joy and comfort in his presence and delightful sense of humor.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr., Richmond, VA 23235. Interment at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cornucopia Cancer Support Center, 5517 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd., Ste. 1500, Durham, NC and Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Rd., Ste. 305, Richmond, VA.
