OBITUARY :
BROOKS EDWARD SHORT, 67, of Hagerstown, Md., crossed over to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1945, in Romney, W.Va., he was the son of the late Carlton and Audrey Ashworth.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 4th Infantry Division in the Vietnam War from Jan. 7, 1969, through March 28, 1970.

He was a hard worker all his life. He retired from the railroad.

His main hobby was fishing and camping. He loved his family and all of his pets. He enjoyed spoiling his grandkids. He was a very generous man and would try to help anyone having a difficult time.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 694, The Little Club, the Moose Lodge, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Shank of Clear Spring; two brothers, Jack Haines and Jerry Haines, and wife, Betty, all of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Casey Shank and Garrett Shank, both of Clear Spring; several nieces and nephews and his former wife, Linda Short of Funkstown; also his beloved pets, his sheltie, Jake, and cats, Tootsie and Baby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Audrey Ashworth, and his sister-in-law, Anita Haines, as well as his beloved shelties, Queenie, Sassy and Jada.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Steve McCarty will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Military honors will be conducted at the grave site by Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the VFW, 70 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740
