Joe C. Boland, 80, of Jumping Branch was called to his heavenly home, Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born November 21, 1932 in Summers County he was a son of the late Harold and Hattie Higginbotham Boland.

Joe was a US Army Veteran having served in Germany. He served the state as a WV State Trooper securing the rank of Corporal and upon retirement Honorary Captain.

He served the Lord with his life and was proud to serve as Chaplain for the WV State Police for many years. Joe was a member and deacon of Bluestone Baptist Church. He was a former pastor of Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church and Wikel Community Baptist Church and had held many evangelical revivals across the state as well as the east coast.

Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who served God first then his country, state and community.

Other than his parents Joe was preceded in death by one brother, Merrell Boland; one half brother, Paul Boland and one half sister, Mildred Ulrich.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Margaret Hannigan Boland at home; one daughter, Teresa Lynette Lampe and husband John of Morganton, GA; two sons, Michael Joseph Boland and wife Myra of Hinton and Patrick Harrison Boland and wife Susan of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Kristopher Michael Boland and wife Megan, Kimberly Shafer and husband Josh, MacKenzie and Piper Boland; one great granddaughter, Carter Rhae Shafer; one sister, Joyce Hicks and husband Guy of Shady Spring; one sister in law, Shirley Boland of Jumping Branch; one nephew, Mitchell Boland and wife Susan of Shady and one niece, Shari Thompson and husband Steve of Petersburg.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 27, 2013 at Bluestone Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Fox and Corporal Jim Mitchell, Chaplain WV State Police.

Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call at Bluestone Baptist Church from 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. on Thursday.

Members of the WV State Police will serve as pallbearers.
