Mary (Todd) Lurie was born on Saturday, May 21, 1932, in Van Wert, OH, the daughter of Burdette and Belle (Krugh) Todd.

On Sunday, September 5, 1954, Mary married Alan Lurie at Euclid Avenue Jewish Temple in Cleveland, OH.

Mary grew up in Van Wert and graduated from VWHS in 1950. She earned a bachelor's degree in medical technology from Ohio State University in 1954. Mary met Alan while both were students in an arts history course at OSU.

Mary was a military spouse while Alan was in the US Air Force. She and her children lived in Apple Valley, CA, for the "year" that Alan went to Vietnam. The one year turned out to be eight years (1965-1973) because Alan ended up a POW in various North Vietnam prisons.

Mary worked as a medical technician for 20 years at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, doing various research studies.

Meanwhile, Mary herself battled 6 different cancers over the last 20 years of her life.

Mary's favorite hobby was poker. She was also an avid fantasy football team owner. Mary golfed for 20 years and carried an 11-handicap. For more than 25 years, Mary met once-a-week with her panguinui-playing club. She was a voracious reader and especially loved mysteries. She handmade quilts, pillows, and sweaters. And she was a year-round Christmas shopper.

Mary was feisty and independent and dearly loved.

Mary and Alan have 1 son and 2 daughters: Kit (Bill), Kim, and Cameron (Angie); and 2 granddaughters: Kaitlin and Amelia.

Grandson Matheson died in infancy.
