Sing and his family were one of the first property owners in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. Sing immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1870's and settled in San Francisco. During the 1880's he relocated to Los Angeles and in the 1890's he and his family resided at 2309 East Third Street in Boyle Heights. Sing worked as a court interpreter for over 20 years. He also served as the first Chinese licensed Methodist in the United States and was pastor of the Los Angeles Chinese United Methodist Church from 1900 until 1923.
