Sarah A. "Sada" Alva Brownlee, 91, a resident of Blair Ridge in Peru, passed away 1:11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru.
Sada was born June 24, 1922, in , MarathonTexas, to Elmer J. and Alva (White) Taylor. She married Harry L. Brownlee, Jr. Feb. 12, 1944, in Alpine, Texas. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Brownlee and wife Jane in Paradise Valley, Ariz.; a daughter, Martha McGowan and husband Jack Jr. of Peru; eight grandchildren, Morgan Brownlee and Taylor Brownlee of Arizona, Timothy Garretson, Shalana Dexter, Yolanda Schuler and husband Justin, all of Peru, Richard Garretson and wife Samantha of Ohio and Chilton Garretson and wife Jena of Marion; four great-grandchildren, Brayden Dexter and Tucker, Trenton and Annabelle Garretson; and many nieces and nephews in Peru and Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James David Brownlee; two sisters, Louise Gunn and her husband A.V. Sport and Reba Greaves and her husband Troy; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Dexter.
She graduated from Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine, Texas, and was a long-time elementary teacher at Peru and Maconaquah schools. She enjoyed genealogy and traveling with her husband. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Peru and also attended First Assembly of God Church with her daughter's family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Adelsperger officiating.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
Arrangements were entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
