Titusville Herald, May 9, 1949:

Herbert Clayton Thomas, 57, a World War I Veteran, died at 5 a.m. Saturday at his home at Diamond following an extended illness.

A son of David Francisco and Emmaline Shriver Thomas, he was born Nov. 1, 1891, near Diamond. On October 25, 1916, he married Florence Stevenson at Westfield, N.Y.

In World War I, Mr. Thomas served with the Supply Company, 327th Infantry Regiment.

In 1930 he sold his farm and built a service station-grocery store which he operated until his health failed, when his wife took over operation of the business.

Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Arthur G. of Titusville, Star Route, and Donald W., at home. One sister, Mrs. Floyd B. August of Titusville, also survives.

The deceased was a member of the Chapmanville Methdist church and Cleo J. Ross post, American Legion, of Titusville.

Funeral services will be held in the Diamond E.U.B. church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Diamond cemetery with the American Legion in charge.

Funeral arrangements are by Williams, but the body is at the Thomas home.
