Funeral services for Mr. Theron "Bill" East Sr., age 97 of Lineville, will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Lineville Baptist Church with Rev. David Porter, Dr. Wayne Stevens and Rev. Jerry Colquett officiating. Burial with military honors and Masonic graveside rites will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery.

Mr. East passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was a native of Randolph County and a life-long resident of Clay County. Mr. East joined the U.S. Army on November 9, 1942 and served in the European Theatre of Operations in the 104th Infantry Division – " The Timberwolves." He was a veteran of three major campaigns: Northern France, Central Europe and Rhineland and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. After the war, Mr. East returned to Clay County to work as a "ginner" at East Mill in the Barfield Community and as a motor grader operator for the Clay County Road Department. He retired from Higgins Slacks and continued to farm for a number of years.

Bill was a member of Lineville Baptist Church for over 80 years and for over 50 years served alongside his wife, Ola, as teacher for the Infant/Nursery/Preschool Sunday School and Worship ministry. He had also recently earned his 64-year perfect attendance pin for Sunday School. In addition, Mr. East was a member of the Lineville Masonic Lodge #219 for 75 years.

He is survived by three sons: Tommy East of Lineville, Dr. Bill East Jr. (Joyce) of Vienna, VA and Z.R. East (Brenda) of Lineville; two sisters: Eulala Williams (John) of Clemson, SC and Ruby Porter (Jimmy) of Lineville; two brothers: John B. East of Leesburg, AL and Ed East (June) of Oxford; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and special friends, the Jeral Clark family.

Mr. East was preceded in death by his parents: Z. R. East and Eva Graben East; his wife of 69 years, Ola Haynes East; four sisters: Thelma Page, Lucille Whitley, Nell Blair and Bobbie Jean Littleton and one brother, Kenyon East.

Pallbearers will be Chip East, Johnathan East, Richard East, Brent Wheeler, Dan Porter, Jeral Clark, Bobby Clark and Gary Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Masons and members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 5:30 P.M until 8:00 P.M. Mr. East will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time.

Flowers will be accepted; however, the family prefers that memorial contributions be made to Lineville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 356, Lineville, AL 36266 – Forward in Faith Fund.
