Alfred was the second son of Dr. Asa A. and Edith Day Allen born when the family lived in Wisconsin. In 1890, his father found a position in Canon City and the family arrived shortly before Christmas. Alfred woke up the next day not feeling well, and before the day was over suffered a convulsion and died that evening. Supposedly he was diagnosed with rabies. The Dr. that was leaving gave the family his cemetery plot.
