Enlisted, May 15, 1917, in Troop H, 1st New York Cavalry, NYNG. Rochester, NY. The 1st NY Cavalry reorganized for the World War into the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. he was assigned to Company A, 106th Machine Gun Battalion.


The 27th Division was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, for training. After training at Camp Wadsworth the 106th MG Battalion shipped out for Europe, May 10, 1918, aboard the USS Antigone, from Newport News, VA.


After addition training in France the 27th Division entered the Lines in mid-Jully 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France.


He returned to the States with the 106th MG Battalion, May 5, 1919, aboard the USS Missouri, from Brest, France. The battalion docked at Hoboken, NJ, March 18, 1919.


He marched in the great "Welcome Home Parade" for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 26, 1919.


On March 31, 1919, he was discharged as a Corporal
