Gary was a 1955 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He had been a self-employed furniture refinisher for many years. He was an avid fisherman and also served in the Army National Guard.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Allen Barnes and his wife, Karen, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kevin Barnes and his wife, LuAnn, of Appomatox, Va.; two daughters, Kathy Spaeder of Erie and Mrs. Larry (Linda) Howard of Hobe Sound, Fla.; two brothers, John "Tom" Barnes and James Barnes, both of Erie; his stepfather, Ronald G. Stadler of Erie; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
