Elizabeth V. "Betty" Abbott, 94, a 60 year Middletown resident, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. Betty was born in NYC to Niklos and Hellen (Mensek) Virubal. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and dancing. Betty was an excellent self-taught cook and baker. She was a true animal lover who adored her own animals, as well as, her grand dogs and cats. Most especially she loved caring for and helping her family. She was formerly employed as the personal secretary for Colonel Raycroft at Ft. Monmouth Hospital and Mr. Philip Genovese, CPA, in Shrewsbury.

She is predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Helen Buchanan, Anna Durik and Mary Ramsour. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, William H. Abbott, who patiently cared for her during her illness; her daughters, Linda Santosuosso of MA, Deborah Wagner and husband Gene of Toms River, and Joanne Olszewski and husband Curtis of Brick; grandchildren, Scott, Christine, Robbie, Tracey, Kelly and husband Kevin, Justin, Skyler and Matthew and wife Lynnette; and great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jayson, Kayanna, Shyanne, Aiden and Kaliyah.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, with a funeral service at 6:15 p.m. at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Alzheimer's Association , Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
