Eliza was born to Charity (Devore) and Louis/Lewis Kinnison. (A handwritten note by her granddaughter gives a birth year of 1845 and the location as Wayne County). She had at least two older siblings Liburn and Elizabeth/Nancy and three younger siblings William, Margaret and Richard.

She married Alfred Crump on June 12, 1866 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Together they had 8 children: Andrew, Mary, Charity, Ada B (Crany), Dora, Lula, Abner, and Emma. Alfred had a child, John, from his first marriage who was four when Eliza became his step-mother. Eliza reported on the 1900 Census that she had given birth to 12 children.

Eliza grew up and raised her children in Cape Girardeau County. She lived in Byrd, White Water, Kinder and Cape Girardeau. By 1910 she and Alfred had moved to Billings, Montana where they spent the rest of their lives. They probably moved to be closer to family, as daughter Dora was also living in Billings.
