U.S. Congressman. He was manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company and was Superintendent of the Central Ohio Union Telephone Company. Entering politics, he was member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1890-93) and chairman of the Democratic Ohio State executive committee, (1902-03). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was assistant president of the Bell Telephone Company, (1910-15), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1921 and practiced law until his death at age 71.
