Son of Adam and Sarah McAnally Mitchell. Husband of Mary Jane Carter Mitchell. He was the father of seven children, five of who died in infancy. Another son, C.A. Mitchell preceded him in death in 1912. A daughter, Mrs. J.E. Mills survives. He was a CSA veteran of the Civil War. Since 1895, he was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
