Mildred A. “Millie” Bernard, 93 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska died at the Parkview Center in Beatrice on Wednesday morning, February 23, 2005. She was born on December 31, 1911 at rural Beatrice, Nebraska and graduated from Holmesville High school in 1931. She was married to J.H. Bernard on November 20, 1934 and they lived and farmed in the Holmesville area for 52 years before moving to Beatrice in December of 1985. She was a seamstress for many years. She loved art and enjoyed writing poetry. She painted murals at Stoddard and Cedar Elementary Schools and several private homes in the area. She was a member of the Holmesville Church of the Brethren and was also a member of the Rose Society, the Beatrice Civic Garden Club and the Homestead Garden Club.

Survivors include two sons, James Bernard of Holmesville, Nebraska and Robert Bernard and his wife Joyce at Ozark, Missouri. Seven grand-children 14 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Carrie Mae Pethoud Guenther, her husband J.H. who died on December 10, 1990, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 25, 2005 at the Holmesville Church of the Brethren at Holmesville, Nebraska with Pastor John Snyder officiating. Burial will be in the Holmesville Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Holmesville. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 A.M. at the church. A memorial has been established to the Holmesville Church of the Brethren with the Fox Funeral Home in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice, Nebraska on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 P.M. and then on Friday at the church one hour preceding the services.
