WINDSOR, VT Margaret Laura Buchanan, 90, a longtime resident of Windsor died Saturday evening, April 26, 2014 at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home in Hanover, NH surrounded by her family. She was born September 24, 1923 in Burlington, VT a daughter of Forrest and Laura (Hanson) Ayer. She grew up in the Addison, VT area and attended school in Middlebury, VT. She married William H. Buchanan on May 15, 1942 in Springfield, VT. They moved to Windsor in 1946 where they raised their family and lived the rest of their lives. Margaret was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for over twenty years before retiring in 1970. She was a member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, the Windsor Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. Margaret enjoyed cooking for everyone, playing bingo and cards, and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1994, and by two sisters, Pearl Moch and Marion Corbelt, one brother, Lloyd Parsons, one daughter-in-law, Denise Buchanan, one granddaughter, Kristy Buchanan, and two grandsons, Shane Olmsted and Jacob Hammond. Survivors include three sons, William H. Buchanan Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Claremont, NH, David L. Buchanan of Windsor and Douglas W. Buchanan of Windsor, two daughters Donna Kendall and her husband, Rick of Windsor and Laura Munstermann and her husband, Roy of Ascutney, fourteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, April 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 1 at 11:00 AM at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, with the Rev. Ken White, Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Buchanan’s six grandsons, Don Buchanan, Doug Buchanan, Jr., Travis Olmsted, Matthew Buchanan, Scott Kendall and Jason Kendall will be the pallbearers. Committal services will follow in the family lot in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Bayada Hospice at 316 Main Street, Norwich, VT 05055.
