Diplomat, court reporter and genealogist. Only child of Thais Uteev Johnson (b. 1914) and George LeVoy Johnson (1915-1989). A UCLA graduate, she entered the United States Foreign Service in 1972. Assigned in 1977 to the United States Consulate General in Jerusalem as vice-consul and visa officer, she wrote two reports in 1978 alleging that Israeli authorities used physically abusive techniques to interrogate Palestinian detainees. Denied promotion, she left the Foreign Service in 1979 and settled with her mother in Enid, OK, where she operated a court reporting service and did genealogical research. Her reports on Palestinian detainees were the subject of stories published in 1979 in The New York Times and The Washington Post. Her own account of the controversy surrounding the reports appeared in The Baltimore Sun. Cause of death: brain tumor.
