RODGERSON- Ellen M. Rodgerson, age 87, returned to her heavenly Father on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2003, after a long illness. She was born on January 29, 1916, in Providence, R.I. to Joseph Aubin and Ellen (Mulick) Aubin, and was 1 of 11 children. She was a lifetime resident of Bridgeport. She married William V. Rodgerson and raised 11 children. Ellen was proprietor of hairdressing salons in both Providence and Bridgeport, and she owned and managed the Aladdin Ceramic Studio. Her talents also included cake decorating, painting, gardening and sewing. Ellen's community service included 40 years of volunteering at Sylvan Manor Convalescent Home. She was past president of the City, County and State League of Democratic Women and past president of the Ballemine Guild of Fairfield. She was also a foster parent. She supported the Boy Scouts of America and three of her sons and twelve of her grandchildren reached the rank of Eagle Scout. Grandma Rodgerson embraced and cherished her grand and great-grandchildren. Aunt Ellen loved her nieces and nephews and shared many friendships. "Cake Grandma" always graciously shared artistic talents. She was diligent in evey calling, always kind, gentle and caring as she served. Her life was one of service to her family and community. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband, William V. Rodgerson and her children, Arlene Volpe of Palm Coast, Fla., Ellen Nelly and husband, Joseph, of Guilford, William, Jr. and Kenneth of Bridgeport, Ronald of Milford, James and wife, June, of Eaton, Donald and wife, Joanne of Easton, Gary and wife, Ruth, of Peoria, Arizona, Dennis and wife, Sherry of Trumbull, Alan and wife, Iris, of Shelton; 30 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Sayles of Milford; a brother, Dennis Aubin of St. Petersburg, Fla; a brother, Henri Aubin of Norwalk, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a son, Mark; brothers, Albert, Arthur, Fred, George and Joseph Aubin; sisters, Victoria Hyatt and Irene Buckley. Friends are invited to go "Directly" to St. Thomas's Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment in Long Hill Burial Grounds. Calling hours on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4796 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull Line).
