Former Mt. Vernon (IL) resident, Marine PFC Jack L. Johnson of 688 Milwaukee Ave., Elkhart, Ind, was serving with the Third Marine Division in South Vietnam when he was killed by enemy fire on May 25, 1969. He was bom Oct. 14, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Roy H. and Mary (Sweat) Johnson. Jack attended Lincoln school before leaving Mt. Vernon in 1957. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1968 before entering the Marine Corps. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Long Beach, Calif., he was a member of United Commercial Travelers of America and was an active member when he was at home. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Roy W. Johnson of Elkhart, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Lmda Rittman of Leonidas, Michigan; four nieces and nephews; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of Bluford. He was preceded in death by one sister.
