In the fall of 1862, when William turned 8 years old, his father went away to fight in the Civil War. His father was mustered out of the Army on July, 11, 1865 and the following September Thomas moved the family to the mining camp of Idaho Springs, Clear Creek County, Colorado.
William married Clarissa Hulet on 4 Apr 1885 in Grand Co., Colorado
A Rifle Colorado newspaper reported: "MAY 30, 1902 Mrs. Marker received the sad news of the death of her brother, Wm Dean, at Denver Monday."
